The rich, assertive flavour of stout makes it hard to miss, and its malty sweetness is a particularly good pairing with moist, brown Irish soda bread.
Though you can make very decent soda bread with ordinary wholemeal flour, a more interesting texture is achieved with the recommended coarse wholemeal, challenging to find in mainland Britain.
