South Loop's Two-Year Wait for the Southern Ends Today
Briefly

After two years of planning and renovations, Chef Xavier Vance and Troy Vivrett launched Southern Chicago on June 24, 2023. Their vision transformed from brunch and cocktails to a fine dining experience featuring upscale soul food. Despite various challenges, including renovation delays and a larger space than initially planned, the restaurant now boasts an outdoor patio and a menu with sophisticated offerings like wagyu burgers and tomahawk steaks. Vance aims to redefine Southern dining with an emphasis on elevating traditional cuisine into a more elegant experience.
The work and wait, Vance says, will be worth it as after the expansion, Southern Chicago is now equipped to be a fine dining restaurant with an outdoor patio and private space for personal and corporate events.
The concept of the restaurant is a Southern American steakhouse. We really want to emphasize that... sometimes when people are thinking of a restaurant that has the word southern or South, it's just strictly soul food, and that is not the case here.
