There may be no buzzier phrase in the world of human resources right now than 'skills-based hiring' - the idea that employers should hire more people for the skills they bring to the job rather than the diploma hanging on their wall.
The smart folks at Harvard Business School's project on Managing the Future of Work and the Burning Glass Institute estimated in a recent report that firms increased the share of non-degreed workers hired into jobs where they had removed the degree by only about 3.5 percentage points.
