Regardless of the size of the wedding you're planning (grand, intimate, or civil), the pressure to find the perfect bridal gown is unrelenting. Pictures are - for better or worse - forever. Thankfully, to help narrow down the endless selection of puffy LWDs, a few wedding dress trends made their mark on the runways of Bridal Fashion Week, and they all agree on one thing: altar-bound style savants will embrace maximalism in the coming year. I had been writing about wedding dresses for years when I bought my own. Because of my work, I thought I was prepared for shopping for my dream gown. A few aspects of my appointment surprised me, though, like the role of my consultant. When I bought my wedding dress, it felt like the culmination of years of anticipation, as I had spent a lot of time writing about other people's gowns. I bought my gown at my first and only appointment, surrounded by a few close family members as I said yes to the dress. The bridal appointment was largely seamless, but there were a few aspects of the experience I wish I had known about before walking into the boutique.

"You don't want to be trading your integrity for exposure, which I think a lot of times happens inadvertently on social. Everybody wants to participate, and I think that's a beautiful thing, but you also want to be really careful of protecting your peace and setting some boundaries."
