The Blue Jays acquired Hernández before the 2017 trade deadline, with the outfielder breaking out in June of 2019 after a stint in Triple-A. Over his next 1660 plate appearances from Jun. 5, 2019, until the end of the 2022 season, Hernández slashed .277/.332/.525 with 96 home runs, for a 131 wRC+. During that span, he earned MVP votes in 2020 and 2021, the same two years he won a Silver Slugger for the outfield. He also earned his first All-Star Game nomination in 2021.

"I don't believe in ghosts. I have stayed there before. I never see anything or hear anything," Hernández said. "But my wife is on this trip, and she says she doesn't want to stay in there. So we have to find another hotel." Hernández added, however, that his wife told him that she has heard from other players and their wives that there had been "something happening" over at the team hotel. Asked to elaborate, Hernández said he had been told that in "some of the rooms, the lights, goes off and on, and the doors - there are noises, footsteps. ... I'm not the guy that I'm gonna be here saying, 'Oh yeah, I experienced that before,' because I'm not, and I don't think I'm gonna experience that.'"

Hello and welcome from the NLDS, and what a damn game it was to start the series against the Phillies. Things looked bleak early as Cristopher Sanchez was dominant early and Shohei Ohtani faltered just a bit in the 2nd inning to give the Phillies an early lead. But out of nothing, Enrique Hernandez drove in a pair of runs and Teoscar Hernandez won it with a big homer as Tyler Glasnow, , and Roki Sasaki managed to close out the final three innings in a 5-3 victory.
