Teoscar Hernández is in his second season with the Dodgers under a three-year, $66 million contract and is playing right field full-time for the first time with the team. In 2024 he logged 871.2 innings in left field and 436.1 innings in right field, and he has spent the majority of his career in right field, where he says he feels most comfortable. The Dodgers accommodated his preference and have kept him exclusively in right field despite defensive struggles. Manager Dave Roberts indicated a left-field switch is "not there yet" and called such a move unlikely, noting roster constraints and the need for options like Tommy Edman's return or increased use of Alex Call against right-handed starters.
"Like I've said the last couple days, I think it's certainly a great thought," Roberts said. "It's something that is not a 0% chance of happening. "I haven't approached Teo yet about it, but it's certainly something I've thought about."
Manager Dave Roberts recently stated the team was 'not there yet' when it came to the possibility of moving Hernández to left field.
