Seasonal programming is ramping up as Memorial Day Weekend arrives and the city's public beaches open for swimming with lifeguards on duty. Various neighborhoods are also hosting events and parades for the holiday, to honor the millions of Americans who died while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces. That means roads around the city will be closed as marching bands and American flags make their way down them.

"I believe an event like that would be a great idea, as it allows the Port Richmond area an opportunity to showcase all the wonderful businesses that call it home," Lopez said. "We've had street closures on Port Richmond Avenue in the past-for the Mexican Independence Day parade and for a Summer Streets event-and they went off without a hitch. The only thing I would suggest is that they give us ample time to prepare."

City officials said they were encouraging downtown businesses to allow employees to work from home or adjust their schedules to avoid the traffic they anticipate as fans head to the 11 a.m parade. Los Angeles Unified School District officials said that all schools will open as usual, but parents should allow extra time to get kids to class. "I encourage all Dodgers fans to plan ahead for the parade, be prepared and celebrate peacefully, safely and responsibly,"

This year's theme, "Potluck," invites everyone to bring something to the table-costumes, creativity or just good energy-because, as the organizers put it, "when we do it together and care for one another, there is enough for everyone." Expect a dazzling, chaotic mix of 50,000-plus zombies, witches, robots, Jedis and other creatures of the night marching up Sixth Avenue from King Street to 15th Street between 7 and 11pm.

The parade in Crown Heights starts at Utica Avenue near Lincoln Terrace Park. It travels west on Eastern Parkway to Grand Army Plaza, ending near the Brooklyn Museum and Prospect Park. The roughly two-mile route is typically lined with more than a million spectators and has more than a dozen security checkpoints. Street closures for the festivities will begin Sunday and last through Monday, at the discretion of police, the New York City Department of Transportation says.

West 62nd Street will be closed from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays through August 3, 2025, for a building inspection from a boom truck.

Muni will operate on a Saturday schedule on Friday with extra service to and from the fireworks area between Aquatic Park and Fisherman's Wharf.
