Gen Z isn't rejecting AI outright, but they are reassessing its role in their lives. What we're seeing in the data is a generation that recognizes AI's utility but is increasingly concerned about its long-term impact on learning, trust and career readiness.

Virtue signaling often manifests in social media posts that aim to elevate one's moral standing without genuine commitment to the cause, leading to frustration among observers.

Heavy social media use partly explains a worrying decline in the wellbeing of young people in the West, the latest edition of the annual World Happiness Report said on Wednesday. In total, 15 Western countries, including the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, saw significant declines in youth wellbeing over the past two decades, according to the report.

We've always known we need each other-not just as partners, not just as parents and children, not just as friends who meet for coffee on a Tuesday, but as a community. We long to belong to a community of people where our names are known, our struggles are witnessed, and our absence is felt. Something in us has always understood this, even if we've lost the words for it; even if the culture around us has spent the last century insisting we're better off managing on our own.

Are people turning away from social media? But that tide might be finally, yet slowly, turning. My Gen Z students have recently been the ones telling me about social media "cleanses", whereby they take a break from it all for a prescribed duration, and "grayscaling" their socials (whereby color images turn to black and white, making them less eye-candy-esque-and all around having better cellphone etiquette such as putting it away during class and turning it off at night.
