Evann Guessand scored his first goal for Crystal Palace in the 90th minute as they eased the pressure on Oliver Glasner with a 1-0 win over 10-man Wolves. Glasner had come under fire from his own supporters in the build-up to Sunday's match after telling them to "stay humble", following a miserable run of form that had threatened to drag Palace into the relegation battle.
The atmosphere at the Estadio da Luz was electric as Mourinho faced the club he famously led between 2010 and 2013. However, the evening turned sour for the Portuguese manager late in the second half. Mourinho's fury was ignited when the referee refused to show a second yellow card to Vinicius Junior after the Brazilian appeared to foul Richard Rios.
Hoffenheim coach Christian Ilzer was pretty clear abut how he felt regarding the penalty and red card given to Kevin Akpoguma in the 17th minute of his team's 5-1 loss to Bayern Munich. "A clear wrong decision. There's no need to discuss it, everyone saw it. There was absolutely no foul. 75,000 people in the stadium were looking forward to a top match here. I feel a bit sorry for them that it turned into this game with one player less," Ilzer said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
An early goal by Cristiano Ronaldo was not enough as Al Nassr conceded three in the second half in a 3-1 loss to Saudi Pro League leaders Al Hilal on Monday. Ronaldo's first-half goal had given second-placed Al Nassr hope of pegging back Al Hilal's lead in the table, but two penalties by Salem Al-Dawsari and Rúben Neves either side of an exquisite finish from Mohamed Kanno gave the hosts the win and a seven-point lead over their Riyadh rivals.
Arsenal missed the opportunity to make up ground on their Women's Super League title rivals as they drew 0-0 with Manchester United, who had Jayde Riviere sent off. Riviere was given her marching orders after committing two bookable offences, the second of which was a late challenge on Caitlin Foord in the 65th minute. But United stood firm against a barrage of Arsenal shots at the Emirates Stadium, with Phallon Tullis-Joyce remaining unbeaten between the sticks to keep the gap between the teams
Chelsea left-back Marc Cucurella will only serve a one-match suspension following his red card in Wednesday's Premier League defeat to local rivals Fulham. The Spaniard, 27, received a straight red card for pulling back Fulham's Harry Wilson when he was running through on goal. An offence which leads to the denial of an obvious goal-scoring opportunity (DOGSO) is punished by a one-match ban.
Marcelino Garcia Toral came bounding down the steps like an excited schoolboy when the bell goes. He flew past the substitutes and staff, skidded left, and sprinted up the line all wide-eyed and excited, shaking his fists and beaming. He had gone 15 or 20 metres, maybe 25 when he realised just a fraction later than everyone else that something had gone wrong again.
The characteristics of a reckless challenge, originally identified by the on-field referee, were not evident in the footage presented to the VAR team when reviewing the incident. Attwell, would have been very uncomfortable with Simons action, feeling the contact on the back of Van Dijk's calf, with a level of force and speed, endangered the safety of his opponent and met the threshold for a possible red card.
