Tottenham's Thomas Frank: No plans to strip Cristian Romero of captaincy after red
"No. Also, he is sorry for the incident. He apologised to his teammates in the dressing room. He is one of the most important players."
"Cristian first and foremost, there is no intention to do the follow through and get a red,"
"At times like this, it should be other people coming out to speak, but they don't, as has been happening for several years now. They only show up when things are going well, to tell a few lies."
"He clearly goes for the ball. Unfortunately, the way the rules are, it becomes a red."
Thomas Frank intends to keep Cristian Romero as Tottenham captain despite recent controversies. Cristian Romero posted that the squad's lack of options is "disgraceful" and also criticised team appearances after a defeat. Romero was named captain at Old Trafford but was sent off after 29 minutes for a reckless challenge on Casemiro, leaving Tottenham to lose 2-0. Romero faces a four-match suspension after his second red card of the season. Since his Tottenham debut in August 2021, Romero has been sent off six times across all competitions, more than any other Premier League player in that period. Romero apologised to teammates in the dressing room, and Frank described him as one of the most important players while noting the rules made the challenge a red.
