Pope Leo XIV urged for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip following an Israeli strike that killed three and injured ten at a Catholic Church.

Even popes need to take vacations. Beginning with Pope Urban VIII in 1626, some popes have chosen to escape the oppressive summer heat of Rome by spending time at the papal summer residence in Castel Gandolfo, Italy.

"This afternoon, I will travel to Castel Gandolfo, where I intend to have a short period of rest," Pope Leo XIV shared in a devotional message.

It is disheartening to see today that the strength of international law and humanitarian law no longer seems binding, replaced by the presumed right to overpower others.

Leo himself wrote that: "the care of the universal Church should converge towards Peter's one seat, and nothing anywhere should be separated from its Head" (Letter 14.12).

"I renew my heartfelt appeal to allow access for decent humanitarian aid and to end the hostilities, whose heartbreaking price is paid by children, the elderly and the sick."
