5 days agoSan Jose families fight to stop school closures ahead of Thursday vote
Families in San Jose are fighting to prevent the closure or relocation of six schools, impacting 1,600 students.
Families received a letter from Southwood Park Public School on Oct. 1 informing them about the decision to cancel such trips, which meant that Grade 8 students would no longer go on a graduation trip to Ottawa. Students in Grades 6 and 7 would have also missed out on overnight trips to Claremont Nature Centre in Pickering and to Muskoka Woods, respectively.
For the past two years, our elementary school has partnered with a local megachurch to host an end-of-year fair at our school. The church brings in games and face painters and bounce houses and the whole deal, but they also put on a small religious play about Jesus, and host a table to talk to kids and their parents about the church and Jesus.
Around 200 calls were received by the helpline over the weekend after the audit report by a British surgeon highlighted concern about the high level of potentially unnecessary hip dysplasia surgeries in Temple Street Hospital and Cappagh Hospital.
