Bay Area parent calls for baseball season to end after anti-Asian taunts
Briefly

Parents in the East Bay are urging their school district to take immediate action after their children's varsity game was marred by racist taunts from opposing players. The taunts, directed specifically at players of South Asian and East Asian descent, included derogatory references and chants. High school coach and parent Eugene Lee documented the racial slurs witnessed during the game and filed a formal complaint with officials. The district has not yet publicly responded, but they did acknowledge the report and are looking into the matter.
"When the Indian pitcher came in, there were audible chants of 'Baljeet,' Lee told SFGATE in a phone call. 'When my son came in, there was a voice who said, 'P.F. Chang, is that you?'"
"There were audible barking sounds made four times during his pitching. There were no barking sounds made the rest of the game for anybody else."
"Lee shared that Pinole Valley players later posted a photo of an Asian Albany player on Instagram and added hashtags including #wedontdiscriminate and #lovethyneighbor - both of which Lee believes mocked the behavior during the game rather than reckoned with it."
"Officials responded to Lee on Tuesday, stating that they are working 'to address these concerning actions.'"
