San Francisco 49ers signed veteran wide receivers Mike Evans and Christian Kirk to enhance their youthful receiving corps with experience.
TAMPA, Fla. -- Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Jalen McMillan was enduring one of the lowest and loneliest points of his life -- recovering from three broken vertebrae in his neck that he suffered during a preseason game after a promising rookie season -- when Mike Evans, the Bucs' all-time leading scorer, gave him a much-needed boost. "I think he helped me understand my worth as a receiver, and he was able to teach me that it's OK to make mistakes," McMillan said.
The New England Patriots' offense stalled in a major way during the playoffs. They scored a single touchdown against the Chargers in a 16-3 win in the wild-card round, then scored 21 points despite forcing five turnovers against the Texans. After a strip sack put New England inside the red zone against Denver, Drake Maye ran in a touchdown for their only score of the game. They totaled 78 yards in the first three quarters of the Super Bowl.
DETROIT -- Buccaneers receiver Mike Evans suffered a concussion and a shoulder injury during the second quarter of Monday night's game against the Detroit Lions and did not return to the 24-9 Tampa Bay loss. Evans was carted to the locker room after Lions cornerback Rock Ya-Sin tackled him to the turf on a deep pass from quarterback Baker Mayfield. Evans' head hit the turf as he and Ya-Sin went tumbling to the ground. Ya-Sin got up immediately and was uninjured.
Evans entered the league in 2014 as the No. 7 pick, and he surpassed 1,000 receiving yards in his rookie season. Then he did it in 2015, again in 2016 and, you know what, Evans has yet to stop sliding past the 1,000-yard receiving mark in a season. Now entering his 12th NFL season, Evans looks to break a tie with Hall of Famer Jerry Rice, who also achieved a streak of 11 consecutive seasons with 1,000 receiving yards.
