The Alameda County Board of Supervisors voted to approve the settlement in a wrongful death lawsuit stemming from the Sept. 7, 2022, killings of Benison and Maria Tran by then Deputy Devin Williams. The litigation revealed that Williams failed a pre-employment psychological evaluation before the county hired him and that deputies - during a prior 911 incident with the deputy and the victims - doctored a 911 report, turned off their body cameras, and advised the victim not to file a restraining order against the deputy, which would have limited his ability to work.

Ludwick interviewed some of the athletes involved. Then, he declined to continue as part of the case after believing that some of the information uncovered was obtained illegally. The lawsuit notes that others in the department were also concerned about the legality of the investigation. Additionally, Ludwick alleged the DCI began investigating him after his testimony for violating policy.

Mikel Beltran, 37, of Andover, was pulled over on Rockingham Road in Londonderry, N.H. after he was spotted flashing blue lights from his SUV, CBS News reported. The City of London Police domestic corruption unit are leading a criminal investigation into allegations of fraud made against three individuals connected to the national Police Federation of England and Wales (PFEW). A 46-year-old man from Surrey, a 51-year-old man from Wales and a 55-year-old man from Bristol were all arrested on suspicion of fraud by abuse of position.

Sgt. Tiffany Howell, 47, had a blood alcohol level more than twice the legal limit when she drove her personal vehicle south in the highway's northbound lanes at more than 50 mph and collided with 61-year-old Peekskill resident Manuel Boitel on the night of Jan. 22 in Westchester County, according to the indictment.

Although New Yorker politicians consider themselves the national leader in civil rights, New York still ranks third in the nation for wrongful convictions and New York City has the third-highest number of exonerations nationwide. Each case represents a life derailed: families broken, years stolen, careers destroyed, childhoods lived without a parent. Behind many of these injustices is a familiar culprit: law-enforcement misconduct.
