Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass' bid to rewrite the city's voter approved "mansion tax" fell apart on Thursday, with Bass and her allies pulling the state bill hours before its first critical vote. Bass had worked with Sacramento legislators to draft a last-minute overhaul of Measure ULA, a tax hike on L.A. property sales above $5.3 million, preparing a bill that would reduce taxes charged on the sale of recently built apartment buildings, shopping centers and warehouses.
Mayor Karen Bass condemned the Department of Justice's lawsuit as an "all out assault on Los Angeles," asserting that federal agents engage in indiscriminate detentions of U.S. citizens and immigrants.
Mayor Bass stated that the curfew, along with crime prevention efforts, has been largely successful in protecting businesses and communities from those who don't care about the immigrant community.
"Karen Bass is full of crap," said Sarah Trepanier, highlighting frustrations over the slow recovery of the Pacific Palisades after recent wildfires, despite the mayor's optimistic claims.
