Mayor Karen Bass has adjusted the curfew hours in downtown Los Angeles, moving the start time from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. This change aims to help struggling businesses operate later in the evening. The curfew was initially enacted due to chaotic protests against President Trump's immigration policies, which led to looting and vandalism. With a reduction in crime over recent days, both the mayor and LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell emphasized the importance of maintaining safety while supporting local merchants.
Mayor Bass stated that the curfew, along with crime prevention efforts, has been largely successful in protecting businesses and communities from those who don't care about the immigrant community.
The (curfew) adjusted curfew reflects the progress we've made in reducing crime and vandalism within the curfew zone. That said, we're not letting our guard down.
