'Both sides botched it.' Bass, in unguarded moment, rips responses to Palisades, Eaton fires
"Both sides botched it,"
"They didn't tell people they were on fire," she said to Matt Welch, host of " The Fifth Column" podcast."
""We're not going to be talking about any of that right now," he told The Times before hanging up."
""The interview had clearly ended and they acknowledged that when they took it down," the mayor's team said Tuesday in an email."
An on-camera interview at Getty House's library between Mayor Karen Bass and a podcast host lasted about an hour and ended with handshakes and applause. After formal remarks, the mayor continued speaking and criticized emergency responses to the Palisades and Eaton fires, saying "Both sides botched it" and noting west Altadena lacked evacuation alerts where all but one of the 19 deaths occurred. A 66-minute video posted to The Fifth Column's YouTube channel was later replaced by a 62-minute edit that omits roughly four minutes of remarks. The podcast host declined to explain the edit. Bass' team confirmed the mayor's office requested removal of the final minutes.
