Upcoming New York City museum and gallery exhibitions feature interactive installations and major retrospectives by prominent artists.
After brief residencies, artists Maria Chávez, Maya Dunietz, Kalyn Heffernan, Matana Roberts, and Michael Schumacher each selected an abstract Still painting and composed an original, sonic interpretation in response. Their selections and resulting compositions set the tone for each gallery, then Placzek filled the rooms with other artworks that resonated with their contributions.
The Olympus Perspective Playground operates as a fully built system, where walls, lighting rigs, circulation paths, and signage are developed together with each installation, creating a continuous spatial script.
Lachlan Turczan's practice sits in the space between physics, optics, and environmental art, as he works with lasers, water, mist, and custom-built lenses to produce sculptures made entirely from light.
It's a free, walkable outdoor event that blends sculpture, projection art, interactive exhibits and even giant Roaming Gnomes (more about them later) and takes place Jan. 17-Feb. 15. It's the eighth time around for an event patterned after light festivals in Europe and elsewhere (see Fete des Lumieres in Lyon, France; Berlin Festival of Lights in Germany; and Vivid Sydney in Australia), and it draws both artists and spectators from around the globe.
At the Indianapolis Art Center, "Awakened Infestation: AI in Contemporary Art" presents a bold examination of the complex relationship between creativity and artificial intelligence. The exhibition encompasses a diverse range of art forms, including painting, ceramics, photography, weaving, and AI-assisted works. It highlights artists who are not only experimenting with new tools but also actively questioning the dangers associated with them.
The Petites Inventions du Paysage project consists of three devices and a micro-architecture, inviting walkers to engage with nature's micro phenomena in a rural environment.
