Gold Glove defense. Abreu won the AL right field Gold Glove in 2024 and is a finalist for 2025. Back-to-back Gold Gloves isn't nothing. It's in fact a lot. For as maligned as the Red Sox defense is (largely confined to errors, the Sox rated better by other metrics) Wilyer Abreu has been an excellent fit. Right field at Fenway Park is big. It has corners. It has a bullpen. It has the Pesky Pole. It's a challenge and Abreu handles it with aplomb.
There was deep concern for Michelle Agyemang when she went down with a serious looking knee injury with 10 minutes to play against Australia in Derby on Tuesday. The postmatch comments from Wiegman did little to ease the worry. It doesn't look good, she said. We don't know yet but I'm not very positive about what I've seen. Injury woes have been mounting for Wiegman since the summer with key players already missing. Leah Williamson is yet to return after undergoing a minor knee operation while Lauren Hemp and Lauren James remain out. Grace Clinton was missing with a knock, Jess Park was out with concussion, and Lotte WubbenMoy had to leave camp early through illness. But all the focus now is on Agyemang.
And clearly, the Patriots wanted to be sure they got him in the door by awarding him a hefty contract to play alongside their franchise superstar in Gonzalez. Davis' arrival prompted plenty of excitement about the defense's potential this year, yet he hasn't lived up to that optimism through the first seven games. Although he has been fairly consistent, there are some concerns about his longevity, as he has already dealt with some injury concerns over the past month.
A few years back, the online wellness world got obsessed with a bold claim: 95% of adults over the age of 30 will never sprint again. It's the internet, so of course this concept came from nowhere and was impossible to verify. On my end, I used it as an excuse to write a big "how to reach top speed again" guide, which you can read here. (Please don't blow a hamstring.)
The Dodgers ' exploration of Sasaki as a late-inning option is a reflection of the 23-year-old rookie's upside, but this isn't a commentary of Sasaki as much as it is of the roster. The team's bullpen problems have persisted into the final week of the regular season, and the potential solutions sound like miracles, starting with Sasaki's audition for a postseason role as a reliever.
Between his age and the injury woes that have constantly lingered with the forward over the last few years, it's clear the Texas A&M product is a shell of his former self. That's largely the main reason the Milwaukee Bucks opted to move on from the long-time player ahead of the NBA trade deadline in February. As for Washington, moving on from Kyle Kuzma was equally as important as it was for Milwaukee to get younger at the position.
Tua Tagovailoa's sixth year as the Miami Dolphins quarterback isn't some final code-cracking of who he is or last incursion into what he can do. There's no identity crisis here. Everyone knows his talent by now, where he succeeds and what he lacks. This year is simply about whether all that's enough. You can talk about cornerback holes and the lack of offensive line depth, but everyone knows a quarterback can spray perfume on most any problem if he's good enough.
Matthews is being pegged to finish below his career averages across multiple key statistical categories, including goals and total points. It seems oddsmakers are suggesting that Matthews will miss his former teammate and winger, all-star Mitch Marner, now with the Vegas Golden Knights. The Maple Leafs' star center is coming off an injury-plagued season where he scored only thirty-three goals, far below his franchise-best sixty-nine that he achieved during the 2023-2024 season.
Manchester United have decided against pursuing a deal for Dominic Calvert-Lewin despite being offered the chance to sign the striker on a free transfer following his Everton exit.
