Sigh, this is a depressing one of these to do. Everything about Spencer Strider was, in theory, so awesome, that it didn't seem like a little thing like a year-long layoff due to elbow troubles was going to derail his career. Surely someone so diligent in being in tune with his body and mechanics could hit the ground running, right? Well, not exactly. After an uneven 2025, Strider's outlook is uncertain, and pretty fraught.

Now 31 years old, Gonsolin looked like a potential rotation stalwart with the Dodgers early in his career. From 2019-22, he pitched a combined 272 2/3 innings with a 2.51 ERA while fanning nearly one quarter of his opponents and posting a solid 8.5% walk rate. A pair of IL stints due to shoulder inflammation, plus time off due to an ankle sprain and forearm inflammation, limited Gonsolin's workload in that four-year period.

Right-hander Beau Brieske has been on Triple-A Toledo's injured list since July 10 due to elbow soreness, and Tigers GM Jeff Greenberg told reporters (including the Detroit News' Chris McCosky) yesterday that the reliever had a setback during a recent bullpen session. As a result, Brieske will be shut down for the next 4-6 weeks, meaning that his 2025 season is all but officially over, barring both a deep Tigers postseason run and a rather improbable activation to a playoff roster.

The Giants placed closer Randy Rodríguez on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to August 23, with an elbow sprain. Keaton Winn was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento to take a spot on the active roster. Manager Bob Melvin said Rodríguez is headed for a second opinion (via Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area). It's not known if that means initial evaluation suggested he was facing significant injury or if that's a merely an abundance of caution for any kind of elbow concern.

Lively is expected to miss 12-16 months following Tommy John surgery, confirmed by Dr. Keith Meister after a second opinion revealed structural issues with his elbow.
