In the Hamptons, a Young Family Conjures a Classic Summer Getaway
Briefly

Homeowners Claudia Blumberg and her husband sought to build a welcoming space for family and friends, avoiding a conventional McMansion layout. They collaborated with interior designer Rita Konig and architect Schafer, who aimed to achieve a comfortable home with a big gathering area while maintaining a small house feel. The project evolved into an architectural palimpsest, reflecting various additions that symbolize different moments in the home's history. The team emphasized personal touches, like incorporating books throughout the house, to enhance its character and warmth.
"What you need is a pretty house that feels added onto, which gives you the big room you want but still feels like a small house," she told the couple.
"We made up a kind of mythology about the way the house grew," Schafer explains. "It starts with this modest front cottage that was added onto, with each addition reflecting a slightly different moment."
