corten-clad twin pavilions frame shifting sea views along chinese coastal valley
"The Twin Pavilions are designed to reinterpret the traditional gable form, presenting two single-pitch volumes that engage with the coastal landscape in a unique manner."
"Corten grating of varied densities and thicknesses allows for a play of light and shadow, creating shifting impressions of transparency and solidity across the facades."
"The asymmetrical yet balanced composition of the two structures organizes a sequence of movement and framed views, enhancing the experience of looking towards the sea."
Twin Pavilions in Xiangshan, Ningbo, replaces an underused deck with two gable-roof structures overlooking the sea. Designed by Atelier LuxNox and Found Projects, the pavilions feature single-pitch volumes arranged perpendicularly. They utilize Corten steel and concrete, creating a dynamic interplay of transparency and solidity. One pavilion is compact and vertical, while the other is elongated and parallel to the shore. Together, they form a balanced composition that enhances movement and framed views, enriching the experience of the coastal landscape.
