Arch House / Tiago Castro Sousa Lda
Briefly

The village house, designed for commercial use as a pharmacy, stands prominently in Paredes de Coura with its refined 'Art Nouveau' architectural style. However, the interior reveals a stark contrast; it comprises monotonous, small spaces that fail to mirror the elegance of its exterior. The project's challenge was initiated by culturally aware clients seeking harmony between space and form, aiming to transform the interior into a vibrant living area that reflects the house's aesthetic roots while maintaining functionality through thoughtful design adaptations.
The design ultimately aimed to harmonize the essence of 'Art Nouveau' with the space of the village house, reflecting its commercial function elegantly.
Despite its refined exterior characteristics, the interior spaces were found lacking, emphasizing a disconnect between the house's outward charm and its internal functionality.
Responding to the client's cultural appreciation, the architects aimed to transform the house into a living space that respects the architectural legacy and enriches the experience.
The unique architectural challenge involved reimagining the house while maintaining its historical significance and adapting it for contemporary use.
