Listening has a very particular definition: the kind of listening that nurtures intimacy is rooted in the intention to empathically and compassionately understand another before seeking to be understood yourself. This type of listening is often the hardest to achieve.
Many couples fight to be understood, creating a chaotic situation where both partners are like firehoses pointed at one another, desperately striving to be heard without genuinely attempting to listen. In the end, no one is truly connecting.
