Julieta Aranda's exhibition at the Museo Universitario Arte Contemporáneo represents her first major show in Mexico City. Curated by Alejandra Labastida, the exhibition showcases two decades of Aranda's work, emphasizing her exploration of time and imperial measurement systems. Based in New York and Berlin, Aranda, co-director of e-flux, draws inspiration from personal experiences, particularly the effects of jet lag on her perception of time, navigating beyond conventional measuring systems to investigate the deep implications of temporal experience.
"I thought: 'Is it the same hour that I gain or lose? Or what happens to time then?'"
"I had this distinct feeling of being suspended in time. Of course, I was not, but it made me think about how clocks are just a measuring device."
