In a recent column, Fast Company's Kathleen Davis provided advice on addressing a coworker’s inappropriate dress at work. She emphasizes the importance of understanding workplace dress codes and only intervening when there is a clear violation of these guidelines. Davis suggests that personal judgments should not prompt intervention unless the clothing impacts client relations, workplace safety, or violates official policies. Internal issues arising from appearance should be approached carefully, as they can lead to unnecessary conflict and discomfort among colleagues.
My first instinct is to advise you to keep it to yourself. Commenting on someone's appearance is fraught and how someone dresses...often falls into the category of none of your business.
If there is a policy and it states a guideline that your coworker is very clearly violating, you can bring the issue to the person's manager or HR to handle.
