On Tuesday, Google unveiled new healthcare-focused products and features to enhance user experience with health queries. Significant improvements include expanded knowledge panels in Search covering a wider array of health topics, now accommodating queries in multiple languages. The new 'What People Suggest' feature aims to gather user experiences to provide community-driven insights on health conditions. Additionally, Google launched medical records APIs under its Health Connect platform, streamlining the way users access their medical data across various apps, thereby supporting data accessibility and interoperability in healthcare.
"While people come to Search to find reliable medical information from experts, they also value hearing from others who have similar experiences," Karen DeSalvo, chief health officer at Google, wrote in a blog post.
"Using AI, we're able to organize different perspectives from online discussions into easy-to-understand themes, helping you quickly grasp what people are saying."
"These APIs enable apps to retrieve health records, putting users in control of their data and enhancing interoperability across healthcare platforms globally."
"What People Suggest builds on capabilities like Google's personal health stories feature on YouTube, aimed at keeping people from leaving Search for other sources of health advice."
