Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man introduces a fresh narrative in the MCU where Peter Parker's powers originate differently due to a mystical event involving Doctor Strange. This occurs early in the series when a creature infected by the Venom symbiote falls from a portal, after which a mysterious spider bites Parker. The show deviates from traditional lore, not only in how Parker acquires his abilities, but also in how his secret identity is discovered, drawing parallels to other Spider-Man adaptations.
Within the first seven minutes of the series premiere, we find out what that moment is after Doctor Strange makes a surprise appearance.
Typically, Parker gains his powers after a radioactive spider bites him...But the most similar origin story...is actually that of Miles Morales in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
Another difference from established lore comes at the end of the series' second episode, when Norman Osborn is the first person to find out that Parker is actually Spider-Man.
The show's secret identity discovery is most similar to that in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man films.
