Smash Bros.-Inspired MultiVersus Is Shutting Down A Second Time
Briefly

Warner Bros. is set to discontinue its multiplayer game MultiVersus after Season 5, despite having attempted a rebirth of the game in early 2024. Originally launched in 2022, the game struggled with content and balance issues leading to a dwindling player base. The final season will add new characters but halt all microtransactions, and refunds will not be provided for recent purchases. Players will only be able to access the game offline post shutdown, reflecting broader challenges in long-term game viability.
After careful consideration, our next Season will serve as the final seasonal content update for the game.
MultiVersus' monetization model didn't do it any favors, either. Players complained about the cost of unlocking characters for local tournament play.
Despite the unusual step of 'un-releasing' the game and redeveloping it, MultiVersus never managed to build back its initial player following.
All microtransactions in the free-to-play game have been halted, without any refunds for players who made recent purchases.
