The Legend of Dragoon represents Sony's foray into the turn-based RPG genre on the PlayStation but arose unexpectedly. Former PlayStation Studios head Shuhei Yoshida explains that the project began after his meeting with Yasuyuki Hasebe, a talent leaving Square Soft. Yoshida’s vision was nurtured in an environment of youthful exuberance; despite starting without a strict budget, a dedicated team of 100 was gathered. Significant investment was made into stunning CGI cutscenes, enhancing the game’s epic presentation that aimed to challenge existing RPG standards.
Final Fantasy VII was already announced and the use of 3D graphics for the combat and the pre-rendered 3D CG-beautiful CG-for the backgrounds was amazing to us.
I want to make a new RPG. And that's how I started gathering even more people to start making The Legend of Dragoon.
