Netflix has officially halted development on a promising AAA multiplayer shooter, which involved notable industry veterans like Joe Staten. Alain Tascan, a lead at Netflix Games, emphasized that the game's genre was not suitable for the platform's vision. This decision reflects a broader strategy at Netflix, focusing on quality over quantity in gaming, aligning efforts toward genres including narrative, party, and kids' games specifically for mobile and streaming devices, rather than traditional consoles. This shift aims to establish a unique identity in the gaming landscape.
"I don't want this move to be seen as, 'We're not going to do big ambitious games,'" Tascan told Bloomberg. "It was just the genre of the game... I don't think was matching the platform."
"It's a little bit like a musician, we start copying a few things and then at one point we're going to find our voice," Tascan said. "I don't know how long it's going to take exactly, but I'm very bullish about us finding our voice."
