"Sometimes finding your self-identity is coming face-to-face with your own demon," series creator Echo Wu said to Tudum. "There are different layers to what that means. It rings quite true in Jentry. She's trying to figure out what these powers mean to her. Are they part of her? Are they cursing her? You see this character trying to figure out who she is."
The first teaser for the show reveals the legion of Chinese folkloric figures that Jentry must fight, all in vibrant neon color, and also Jentry trying to fit in and Just Be Normal through the mortifying ordeal of small-town high school.
In Netflix's new animated series, Jentry Chau vs the Underworld, a Chinese-American girl (played by comedian Ali Wong, who also executive produces the show) must harness the supernatural powers she's repressed her whole life in order to fight a bunch of demons from the underworld.
The show boasts an all-star Asian-American cast including Wong, Bowen Yang, Lori Tan Chinn, Lucy Liu, and Jimmy O. Yang.
