Oakley shooting stemmed from online dispute, police say

Authorities arrested a 35-year-old Antioch man in connection with a shooting that injured a 40-year-old man in Oakley. The shooting occurred on Aug. 1 after an ongoing argument between the suspect and victim via social media platforms. The suspect pointed a rifle and fired at the victim, who was later found suffering from a gunshot wound at a gas station. The rifle used has not been recovered. The shooting struck two nearby homes, causing property damage and minor injuries to a resident. Police Chief Paul Beard expressed concern over the return of gun violence in the area.
The suspect, identified as a 35-year-old Antioch man, was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility on charges of attempted murder and shooting into an inhabited dwelling.
The shooting happened about 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 1 in the 4000 block of Macadamia Lane, following an ongoing argument occurring via social media platforms.
Two homes had been struck by gunfire, with a bullet penetrating a chimney and at least three bullets going through a sliding glass door, causing a minor injury.
Police Chief Paul Beard remarked that the incident ended a period of reprieve from gun violence in the city and emphasized that any bloodshed is too much.
