MSNBC announced its rebranding as My Source News Opinion World (MS NOW) after its separation from NBCUniversal. The move follows a directive from NBCU to adopt a new identity, aiming to allow for a modern and independent news operation. Versant’s CEO, Mark Lazarus, highlighted the importance of establishing a distinct brand without the association of NBC and its iconic peacock logo. Despite the name change, MSNBC's President assured that the organization's commitment to journalism would remain unchanged, aiming for a strong promotional campaign to highlight the rebranding.
MSNBC, launched in 1996 as a joint venture between NBC and Microsoft, has rebranded itself as My Source News Opinion World, or MS NOW, following its spin-off from NBCUniversal.
Mark Lazarus, CEO of Versant, stated that NBCUniversal’s decision necessitated a separate identity for MSNBC and CNBC, allowing them to assert independence and modernize their newsgathering operations.
Lazarus emphasized that the future success of MSNBC is not dependent on remaining associated with NBC and the peacock branding, giving them the opportunity to chart their own path.
Rebecca Kutler, MSNBC President, reassured that despite the name change, the organization’s core identity and commitment to journalism would remain intact.
