11-year-old Bay Area girl shot in the head while inside her family's car
"An 11-year-old girl was shot in the head while sitting inside her family's car in Antioch on Monday, officials said. It happened in the parking lot of an apartment complex at 3915 Delta Fair Blvd., the Antioch Police Department said in a news release. Police said the girl was shot as her family was exiting the parking lot and that she was sitting in the passenger seat of the car. Investigators said that they believe the girl and her family weren't the "intended targets" of the shooting."
"Lt. Bill Whitaker, who works for the city's police department, told KTVU-TV that the bullet went through the back windshield and through the car's headrest. After the shots were fired, the family drove to nearby shopping center's parking lot, and multiple people called authorities. When officials arrived at the parking lot, they found the girl inside the car and performed first aid. She was transported to UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland and is in stable condition as of Monday."
