Work on some of Boris Johnson's 40 new hospitals' will not start until 2039
Briefly

The cost of completing the urgently needed new facilities has rocketed from 20bn to close to 50bn after years of limited progress since Johnson first promised them in 2019.
Wes Streeting told MPs that construction on 16 of the 40 projects in England would begin between 2025 and 2030, leaving hospitals in disrepair much longer.
Prof Tim Orchard stated that the delay was devastating news for communities and warned that St Mary's hospital would not last until the 2040s.
Dr James Marsh highlighted the significant impact of the delayed timeline on planning for a new emergency care hospital in Sutton, now pushed to 2035 or later.
