Rumarni Tuitt, 19, has been convicted of attempted murder after he stabbed 18-year-old Kamani Spooner with a 12-inch zombie knife during the Notting Hill carnival. The assault left Spooner with five stab wounds, four of which were life-threatening. Witnesses, including a police officer, observed the incident as Tuitt appeared agitated before launching the attack. Spooner, who did not know Tuitt and was unarmed, describes a chaotic scene before realizing he was critically injured. Tuitt's defense claimed self-defense against a threatening group, but he is facing sentencing soon.
"He then looked down and saw that his intestines were hanging out," said prosecution barrister Mark Paltenghi. "He put his hand over them and just ran."
Tuitt claimed he was acting in self-defence and that he had been approached by a large group of people, one of who had produced a knife.
The attack was witnessed by a police officer who noticed the defendant appeared agitated and was having an argument with another man.
Rumarni Tuitt, 19, was convicted of stabbing 18-year-old Kamani Spooner with a 12-inch blade on 26 August.
