Taliban says misunderstanding' led to arrest of British couple in Afghanistan
Briefly

Peter and Barbie Reynolds, a British couple aged 79 and 75, were detained by the Taliban in Afghanistan, mistakenly believed to carry fake passports. The couple, known for their educational initiatives in the country, were arrested alongside a Chinese-American friend. Their daughter, Sarah Entwistle, expressed concern, urging the UK authorities for assistance after weeks of silence. Taliban spokesperson Abdul Mateen Qani indicated they are working towards releasing the couple, stressing that various considerations are being assessed. The Reynolds have been dedicated to their work in Afghanistan since 2009, maintaining a long-standing commitment to the nation they consider home.
We've now urgently calling on the British consulate to do everything in their power to get us answers and to put as much pressure as they can on the Taliban for their release.
A series of considerations is being taken into account and, after evaluation, we will endeavour to release them as soon as possible.
The couple married in Kabul more than 50 years ago and run Rebuild, an Afghan-registered research and training business that has been operating since 2009.
Our parents have always sought to honour the Taliban, so we wanted to give them the opportunity to explain their reasons for this detention.
