Tesla excluded from incentives in Canada over Trump tariffs
Briefly

Tesla has recently been excluded from electric vehicle (EV) incentive programs in Canada, with officials citing retaliation against CEO Elon Musk and tariffs from the Trump administration. Toronto's Mayor Olivia Chow announced that the city will stop providing tax incentives for Tesla vehicles, particularly in ride-hailing contexts, to promote other electric vehicle brands. This decision aligns with a broader initiative aimed at electrifying the taxi fleet and reducing emissions. Despite this, the city remains committed to its carbon emission goals, indicating a flexible approach to deadlines.
"We are giving incentives for people to migrate into electric cars, except we will stop giving incentives, financial incentives to buy Tesla," Chow said during the media conference.
"There are other electric cars around," which fleet operators would have to consider.
"We would like to reduce [its] carbon footprint as quickly as possible," but that it could always look at "whether or not the deadline makes sense."
