Craig Machan, director of parks and operations at Conservation Halton, stated, "Anything that we can do to help people have a better quality of life, we should try to do." He emphasized the importance of disconnecting and walking outside, noting that 75% of prescriptions are for mental health and highlighting the potential for improving physical well-being through nature.
Jennie McCaffrey from the BC Parks Foundation mentioned that the program aims to connect people with nature, stating, "It's been really proven that when people are connected to nature, they're more likely to engage in pro-environmental behaviours for the long-term." She aspires for nature to be recognized as the 'fourth pillar of health.'
Dr. Stephen Chin pointed out the health benefits, stating, "Walking outside for 20 minutes can make a big difference in our health by triggering a drop in our cortisol levels." This highlights the physiological impacts of engaging with nature.
