Meta is set to introduce ads to WhatsApp Status, allowing businesses to reach 1.5 billion daily users. To maintain the chat experience, ads will only appear in Status and not in personal chats. Users can also subscribe to channels for exclusive updates. Meta emphasizes the measures to protect user data, asserting that it will not sell personal messages or information to advertisers. Despite WhatsApp's global popularity, it has faced challenges in gaining traction in the U.S. market, where iMessage remains dominant.
To show relevant ads, Meta will use your country, city, language, and the Channels you follow.
Meta will allow businesses to promote their products or services in Status, enabling them to reach potentially 1.5 billion people who use WhatsApp daily.
In its announcement, the company says, 'We've been talking about our plans to build a business that does not interrupt your personal chats for years and we believe the Updates tab is the right place for these new features to work.'
