Sunnyvale has launched a new free car service to improve transportation for residents and workers in the area. The Peery Park Rides app allows users to request rides from anywhere in northwest Sunnyvale, specifically catering to a region featuring major tech companies. Officially inaugurated in partnership with the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority and Via, the service aims to reduce traffic and pollution. Operating on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., this two-year pilot program signifies a step towards a more connected and sustainable city, despite previous delays due to the pandemic.
"Today we're not only launching a shuttle, we are launching a commitment to a more connected, more vibrant and more sustainable Sunnyvale," said Sunnyvale Mayor Larry Klein.
"The rideshare will help alleviate congestion and pollution in the city," said Krista Glotzbach, highlighting the environmental benefits of the program.
