In an effort to revitalize the kickoff, the NFL has introduced new rules for this season that fundamentally change how kickoffs are executed, aiming to encourage more returns.
Under the new rules, receiving teams will begin at their 30-yard line after a touchback, thus diminishing the incentive for kicking teams to boot the ball deep into the end zone.
