The Arizona Supreme Court unanimously ruled that nearly 98,000 voters whose citizenship documents weren't confirmed can participate in state and local elections, highlighting crucial voting rights.
The court noted that disenfranchising these voters so close to the Nov. 5 general election would be unjust, particularly considering they registered long ago under penalties of law.
Secretary of State Adrian Fontes emphasized that denying voters who believed they met requirements access to the full ballot raises serious equal protection and due process concerns.
Chief Justice Ann Scott Timmer stated, 'We are unwilling on these facts to disenfranchise voters en masse,' after agreeing with the necessity of the voters retaining ballot access.
