TSA refutes popular food blog, says Costco cards are not acceptable ID
Briefly

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is addressing a misleading claim circulating from a food blog about Costco membership cards being acceptable for airport identification. TSA spokeswoman Lorie Dankers emphasized that while a Costco card may help establish identity, it does not fulfill ID requirements and could lead to significant delays. Travelers risk missing flights if they present a Costco card alone, as TSA protocols still necessitate confirming identity through additional personal information. Dankers highlighted the recurring nature of this misinformation.
"Yes, it's true: TSA has frequently accepted Costco membership cards as a form of valid ID," the blog post reads, arguing it meets TSA's requirements because it has your full name and photo on it.
Dankers explained that if a traveler arrived at the airport with nothing but a Costco card, it would help the TSA officer begin confirming their identity, but it's merely the first step in an extensive process.
