In 2024, gig workers from platforms like Uber, Instacart, and Lyft reported a decrease in earnings, often while working longer hours. A report from Gridwise highlighted that Uber drivers faced a 3.4% wage drop to an average of $513 per week, despite working slightly more hours (0.8% increase). Lyft drivers saw a more significant pay decline of 13.9%, averaging $318 weekly. While DoorDash and Amazon Flex workers experienced some earning increases, their hours also rose dramatically. Favor was the only app that provided workers with increased pay alongside reduced hours, underscoring the growing competitiveness and financial strain in the gig economy.
Drivers are earning less across all of the platforms," Ryan Green, the CEO of Gridwise, told Business Insider.
Even when delivery and ride-hailing drivers made more, their hours rose, too, a new report found.
