Meta's layoffs, affecting approximately 3,600 workers, were framed by CEO Mark Zuckerberg as necessary to remove low performers. However, reports revealed that some employees who were laid off had received commendable midyear performance reviews but were unexpectedly downgraded in year-end evaluations, which led to their termination. Internal guidance directed managers to adjust performance ratings to meet targets for employee reductions, leaving many high-achieving individuals shocked by their sudden job loss. This has raised concerns regarding transparency and fairness in the evaluation process at Meta.
