Cameo, a Chicago-based video messaging platform, is encouraging employees to return to the office with a $10,000 salary increase. This initiative stands in stark contrast to companies like Amazon and JPMorgan Chase, which are enforcing mandatory return-to-office policies. Cameo's CEO, Steven Galanis, believes in the value of in-person collaboration and aims to address the challenges both workers and CEOs face. Though Cameo saw explosive growth during the pandemic, it faced significant post-pandemic difficulties, resulting in layoffs, but is now gradually rebuilding its workforce.
"We believe people are more valuable in person," said Steven Galanis, 37, Cameo's co-founder and CEO. "This is an idea that I think solves a lot of the problems that so many CEOs are facing, and frankly, a lot of workers are too."
"During COVID, our business really exploded," Galanis said. "Every single athlete, actor, celebrity on Earth was out of work, and they were just more available."
