Wisconsin's state employees may be mandated to return to their offices as part of new legislation introduced by State Rep. Amanda Nedweski. This initiative aims to reinstate in-person work by July 1, 2025, as remote work persists five years post-pandemic, diminishing productivity and leaving state office spaces underutilized. A state audit revealed that many offices are largely empty, especially within the Department of Public Instruction, prompting concerns over efficient use of taxpayer-funded resources. The plan retains remote work options for eligible employees, focusing on enhancing statewide productivity and proper management of state resources.
It is unconscionable to me that only about 5% of DPI's employees are actually working in-person.
This bill is about maximizing the efficiency that we get from our state agencies and our state-owned buildings.
